Putting Together or Combining or Joining Sets

Competency: Illustrates addition as "putting together or combining or joining sets".


Things to do:

Good day children! Are you ready to learn our new lesson?

This lesson will teach you how to combine or join sets.


Let us learn:

Ronald has 5 marbles. His brother gave him 2 more marbles. How many marbles does he have?

Questions:

1. Who has marbles?

2. How many marbles does he have?

3. How many marbles did his brother give him?

4. How many marbles does he have all in all?

Let's Solve!

Let's use the illustration.

5 and 2 make 7.

Answer: Ronald has 7 marbles.

Let's explain further using this additional statement.

5 (addend) + 2 (addend)= 7 (sum)

Here's another example:

Kyle and Gab picked fruits in their backyard. Kyle got 6 apples and Gab got 4. How many fruits do they have all together?



Let's Solve!

6 apples + 4 apples = 10 apples

Addition is the accumulation of things.

+ (plus sign) is the symbol you use in addition.

Addends are the numbers that are added togther.

Sum is the answer after adding the addends.
